By the Numbers
Yes, there has been week one of the bowling. Oh my — we had fun and enjoyed the playful “trash talk” with our team and others. So here’s a recap of the night — by the numbers.
- As in 103, my average score for the night. I happen to be a little proud of this — mostly because I’m not the bottom of my team — but more so because I was CONSISTENT. (You’ll see why this is important.)
- As in nearly 200 (more like 195), Prince’s TOP score EVER!!! His first game of the season began with a 5 in the first frame followed by FIVE straight strikes (all the pins fell down — I’m told this is hand slapping cheering worthy). Attempting to be humble, he is all “I don’t know what is going on.” In reality, he was shocked and thrilled. He says he loves his new ball.
- As in the 3rd game sucked for Mr. Prince. It seemed after a high of 195, he fell into great suckage. We tried to explain that he was setting his handicap so beginning with a 195 wasn’t a good plan. He must have taken this to heart and fell into a deep slump by the 3rd game — but he still pulled out 3 strikes in a row and has a higher average than me. Though, in my defense — I’m a more consistantly bad bowler.
- As in the number of people total at the alley I’d met before. (And I mean MET as in, I was introduced and exchanged a smile and a hello — there was literally ONE other human in that alley I’d had more than a 1 minute conversation with — and I showed up with HIM.)
- Number of people on our team. We are esentially three couples (5 players with one alternate). Prince and I are the only couple who did not bring our newborn child (’cause we don’t have a newborn child, but still).
- As in the number of times Prince told me NO, when I asked if we could have a newborn child. There may be a side bet on our team to see if he caves — but even I’m doubtful. (Though I did have him agree to it if he never had to change diapers, get up with him/her in the middle of the night, or hear him/her scream — I asked if he was moving out?)
- As in 7 separate body parts hurt this morning — one of which began to hurt during my first game. And I broke a nail.
- As in the number of times I mentioned regret over not ordering food during practice. We ate our dinner AFTER we got home. I was hungry — perhaps I can blame hunger on my game?
- As in the money I saved by drinking the FREE sodas (cause we bowl at a bar with free sodas — hello???). However, having to do the Mr. Rodgers’ shoe shuffle was not fun in order to get said sodas.
- As in the number of times Prince mentioned to a couple on the other team that I sell travel (they are looking for a family trip), but the dad said at one point, “you just keep pimping her out, huh?” In Prince’s defense, this same guy had told me to “cheer up” the same number of times. Seems he mistook “game face” for “pissed off” face. Easy mistake?
In other news, NO ONE — nada, nobody noticed my super cool bowling bag. I think we have some blind folks on my league. Now, I bowl with a guy who brought in (and I’m not kidding here) TWO 4 ball ROLLING bags — plus his wife’s. He was serious. He also was bowling over 200 (except the first game — where he and Prince had a conversation that Serious Bowler hadn’t found his game, perhaps Prince was borrowing it. Prince began to suck and SB found his game.)
I have a handicap greater than my average score. I’m thinking this is a good thing, but I have no idea what I’m really talking about here.
Tonight, tonight, I get to go knit amoungst my peeps. We can talk yarn overs and casting on and other people won’t know our secret language. I’m ok with that.
I did have fun last night. I finally met a few people. It was a good evening. Now, I’m looking forward to our bye week in October!!!!
If you are looking for the Update on the 30 Wishes — look to the right or click here. I’ve pulled it out of the daily posts as it will get too long — but will update and track it over there. (And despite Prince’s prediction that I will run out of wishes at 22 and state “This is too hard” I see no end in sight yet.)

Sounds like lots of fun! Hubby and I need something like that, where we can get away on a regular basis (other than with people who talk cars). You definitely bowled better than I ever have. And shame on those people for not noticing your ultra-cool bag. Of course, since they were parents of newborns, they’re obviously in a stupor from the sleep deprivation and screams and poop, and wouldn’t notice if you slapped them upside the head with a bowling ball. It will be interesting to see if you can talk Prince into the baby thing – wish I was a fly on the wall for those conversations! And just remember, those things are little and cute now, but they will grow up, and then they will conspire behind your back, and eventually pick your nursing home. Just saying.

I think it’s good to be multi-lingual. You speak Yarn, Blog, Travel and now you’re learning Bowling….
