Gag me with a Spoon

This post, is, TOTALLY, like a flashback. (more…)

On my way to Circle K

Tuesday, January 30th, 2007

When I was pregnant with Duke, I was warned not to tell people our planned name for him because people always seem to think they have a right to share their opinion. However, I keep secrets as well as a sieve keeps water, so alas, I told anyone who asked. For me it wasn’t a big deal, Duke’s name is ‘normal’ and fairly common by all standards and I got no foul reactions. (more…)

A Discussion of Crap

Friday, January 26th, 2007

What a week. A shutter literally runs up my spine when I think about this week. In a word it has been crappy. But as I’m comparing my week to a few of my friends I’m thinking that everyone’s week was pretty crappy. So, when I sit down to reflect upon, I’m forced to wonder, “What makes for a good week? Do we tend to focus so much on the negative that we loose sight of the good stuff?” (more…)

In which I get superior and get smacked for it…

Wednesday, January 24th, 2007

Yesterday as I was reading my blog list (which for the record is LONG and I commit to reading it daily, lest I ever come back to 200+ unread blogs — because after all I don’t function unless I know what you had for lunch), and I come across my friend and his current sleeping issue. Now, we all know I have a deep understanding of sleep issues — to the point that Prince asked me right after Christmas if I should talk to my doctor about the lack of sleep, since it was all I posting about these days. But I found it too funny that my friend was getting up to make himself coffee basically in his sleep. Now the 5 hour old, cold pot of joe made me sad for him — but I took a serious delight in the mental image of the 1am NEED for coffee. Yes, I’m a horrible person, please forgive me. (more…)

Snipets

Thursday, January 18th, 2007

The Ebola/plague/bird flu seems to abating. I say this after having my first night of non-drug induced sleep in a week and the fact that my coffee in fact tastes like coffee again. Thus, I am declaring myself on the mend. Which is a good thing, since after all the sitting I’ve been doing lately, I’m rather looking forward to doing something else, like standing.

So since I’ve been living the tough life of attempting to get better, I sat down with nothing more than little snipets for you, my pretty internets today. (more…)

The test came back…

Wednesday, January 17th, 2007

…I’m not dying of Ebola, yet. I actually decided, after a coughing fit that left me sitting on the floor breathless and five days of a sore throat that woke me up at night, to go to the doctor. Now, I’m NOT the run to the doctor every time I have a sniffle kind of girl. In fact, I would much rather see my doctor along the lines of once per year and we go our merry ways. (more…)

When even Coffee can’t fix it

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

Yes, it is sad to say that this weekend has been interesting at Chez Sickness. First, yes, I’m slightly better, but still thinking of calling the doctor, because seriously folks 5 days of razor blades in my throat is ENOUGH, plus this sleeping 3 hours at a time thing is slowly sucking my will to go on. Secondly, Duke has been fighting with a little version of this ‘plague’ of his own. I keep trying to tell Prince that we have Ebola, but he’s not listening. Instead he declares, “Oh, fun, cough medicine all around!” (Then Duke and I scurried — because it is only cute if we scurry — to get our meds.) Finally, I was forced to trade my beloved coffee for hot tea all weekend because frankly coffee does not go well with the razor blades that have nested in the back of my throat. (more…)

Today’s Entry from Duke

Saturday, January 13th, 2007

I’m sick.  Horribly, icky sick.  I need to stay in bed and live on nothing but Nyquil all weekend — the doctor said so.  So in the tradition of Family Circus, when Billy fills in for his dad, I bring you Duke’s entry for the day. (more…)

Someone explain this to me, PLEASE

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

I had to take the car in yesterday morning for a recall repair (they needed to download new software to my car’s computer — I’m sure it was the auto-verison of Windows XP with SP2’s upgrade to IE7).  Knowing this wasn’t going to take long, I was prepped with my knitting and my book on my iPod.

When I get into my car to drive over, I notice that it is a HORRIBLY cold 36 degrees out with WIND.  I’m bundled up in my winter coat and hoping the seat heaters come on NOW.  However, when I walked into the waiting room of the dealership I see “Maria.”  Maria is dressed in her finest, satin, spiked heels (black); skin tight, “skinny” stretch jeans, and a red cotton camisole.  That’s it.  I’m shivering in my heavy coat, sweater and jeans.  Heck, I even put socks on (which if you know me at all means I was totally cold).  But she’s hanging ALL out in pratically nothing.
