Three B’s: Boise, Bowling, and Birthday

(Sidenote: For all those desiring a photo of the Boise shawl (which yes, was left off the list) will have to wait. You see, as I was digging through the WIPs, I COULD.NOT.FIND. it. Yes, it is freaking me out, but right now I’m left with three options:

  • Someone has broken into my house and stole my unfinished shawl.
  • I have packed it up in an “I will always know where this is” location and promptly forgot.
  • I have lost it — but frankly this is so far fetched I can not imagine this is truly the case.

I did find two balls of the yarn, so I was able to rule out that I had imagined the whole shawl.)

Back to the point.

This past weekend, Duke got his very first Pre-school birthday party invitation. Better than that, it was at a bowling alley. Oh, my, Duke danced in circles for three straight days waiting for the party. His joy seemed to center around birthday cake, birthday hats, and bowling — but frankly, he was a whirl of a kid for those days.

So, Saturday morning we planned out the day with Duke. Errands, lunch, NAP, and party. No problems. While he’s napping, I wrap the gift and we prep for the party. Duke wakes and off we go.

After listening to all the things that will happen at the party (cake, hats, presents, OH MY), we arrive and walk into the LOUDEST room EVER!! Take 1,000 kids (may have been closer to 10, but STILL), add bowling balls hitting pins and you have a recipe for the worst headache in the world.

Duke had a blast! He ‘played bowling’ on two lanes at the same time (hey, he’s popular) and he ate a piece of cake roughly the size of his head and only narrowly missed having the sugar high with a chocolate high if I’d not re-allocated the goodie bag.

All of this was great, except for one little, bitty thing — he is STILL talking about it! CONSTANTLY! LOUDLY! and with HIGH ENERGY!

There were no birthday hats or balloons, but Duke had an absolute blast and hopes there might be ANOTHER birthday party this weekend. Thankfully, there isn’t one.

So, you want to know my highlight? I called my parents on Saturday to chat. I tell them about the headache and the birthday party and there was sheer GLEE in my father’s voice as he says, “You know you have a lot more of these coming, right?”

Hold me.

My brothers’ kids are all (but one) older than mine. For every time I taught their kids something inappropriate or gave them a gift that gave my brothers and their wives headaches, they’re getting me back now. One brother has even invited C out for a week’s visit this summer. Do I dare?
