Put a sweater on I’m cold
As far as I can remember, I prefer to sleep with the windows open. I love the fresh air, the gentle noises, the smells of the outside while I sleep. I also love that when it is actually possible to sleep with the windows open it isn’t ever too hot or too cold.
Since Prince and I’ve been married, we’ve had a huge difference of opinion over the openness of the windows. You see one of our first apartments had a lovely view of a major highway, and the noise with the windows closed was horrible, so nope, never open. Then we moved to the ‘country’ to a small community and I though SURELY I’d get the open windows I loved. Oh, but NO, it seemed that the school bus came through too early or the geese swaked too loudly for Prince’s delicate ears.Â
Then we moved to Snarkville, you remember — the place with no AC? Well, we’ve slowly been getting into having to sleep with the windows open. Two nights ago, after a positively perfect day outside, we left the windows open for what may rank as the most perfect balmly night EVER. Tucked under my two blankets, I was snuggy warm and there was a slight shill in the air. It would have been a great night sleep, had there not been a constant changing of the cats in the open window sill.
When I woke up in the morning, the house was chilly and nice. I left the windows open and let the sun gently warm the house up throughout the day. My office stayed chilly (it is in the basement) and the kitchen was delightful. It couldn’t have been more perfect.
Thus it didn’t take me long to decide that we HAD to leave the windows open again. But, since I don’t believe that weather is allowed to change, I didn’t check the weather report and had no idea that the warm spell was OVER. No, not just over, but in fact we dipped to downright COLD last night.
Also, because apparently I’m lazy as well as not bright, when I woke up shivering at 3am, I did not in fact close the windows and turn the heat on*. I rationalized this that it would get hot today and I’d be proud of myself for sticking with the chill (read: bone freezing cold) to have a house that would take longer to warm up.
When we got up, I closed the windows, put on socks AND a sweatshirt. I’m still cold.  Any guesses if I’ll have the windows open tonight? Because truthfully, I don’t learn and will still probably not check the weather before going to sleep.
*Note: for those of you worrying over Duke and the cold house, let it be known that before we went to bed last night, he was wrapped up in the warmest comforter AND the window in his room is NOT open, resulting in it being about 10-15 degrees warmer in there. He woke up in a great mood, probably due to his coziness. And yes, I made him wear a heavy jacket today because I am so flippin’ COLD.

I’m with you kiddo…I love sleeping with the windows open and a bit of a chill in the air…specially when I’m all snuggly under my comforter.
