Woe to those who don’t head my warning!
(Geez, drama much?)
I learned two important things this weekend. (Only two you ask? Well, yes, why?)
First, do not EVER go to the grocery store while PMSing. I’m serious, you will come home with a bunch of bananas (for Duke) and two packages of cookies, a 12 pack of Vanilla Coke Zero, a box of cereal, and nothing else. Do you have any idea how I’m going to make dinner (or lunch for that matter) with COOKIES???? Bonus points, if you correctly guessed that I told Prince I bought one of the packages of cookies for him and not that I decided he could have one or two before I bit his head off.
The other thing I learned…
is much more complex. You see I married a man who isn’t into going to the movies. Oh, he likes movies well enough, but to go to the theater and mix with the masses isn’t his thing. This bums me greatly because I LOVE the theater experience. Yup, love it down deep in my heart. (Sidenote: when I was younger, Queen Mum and I would go and see two movies on a single day — those were awesome days.) Well, the last time I saw a movie in the theater was when I took an afternoon off and went alone. Yes, that was nearly a year ago.
So I have this burning desire to go to the movies again, like somehow once a year is too much — I used to go at least once a week, but I was dating then — so I can totally see the trade off. Anyway, I decided that this weekend would be perfect to take Duke to hopefully the first movie we’d stay through. (We tried a year ago to see Curious George, and while he now LOVES the movie, he just wasn’t ready for the movie experience.)
I decided the best movie to see would be Ratatouille. It is adorable. This time around we went and had popcorn and candy. We had great seats (though Duke isn’t quiet heavy enough to keep his seat down without work). He is pretty much entranced by the movie experience for the first hour and a half. Hello — who knew this was a 2 hour movie??? The last bit was tough, Duke sat in our laps, he wanted to play a bit more. Now, at no time do I think he actually disturbed the kids around us — but it annoyed Prince.
Now, I can’t wait to take Duke to his next movie, though the Simpsons Movie isn’t happening, I may be forced to leave Prince at home. However, I think Prince would rather endure bamboo under the fingernails than go back to the movies with us. Perhaps I overstate, let me put it this way, the look on Prince’s face as we exited the theater was something between, “Don’t ever ask me to join you on this exercise of futility again” and “You owe me BIG.” Hmmm, perhaps I didn’t overstate.
Now, I’m hoping that when Duke gets older he will be totally into my love for mindless movies and then I can go back to my once a week schedule. One can hope.

What you missed-
The strange woman who elected to sit beside me and try and steal the armrest that I had already claimed – my drink was in the drink holder and everything! Heck my arm was ON the armrest and she actually tried at one point to push it off…
My feeling. I was there first, I had already staked out my claim. Being able to plainly see my claim on the surrounding armrest when she arrived, she should have known that she wasn’t getting it…

Cookies for dinner? I’ll come up with something for ya. watch w(t)f later in the week.
And the other thing? wow. I’m as agoraphobic as the next guy, but I’m all about getting out and catching the summer movies on the big screen. The experience in my home is actually better than the theatre, but I don’t have the 12′ tall screen or 10K watt sound system. For those things, catching transformers in the theatre was totally worth it!

I will go to the movies with you. I might need more than a few hours notice though.

Oh, and, I too had cookies for dinner tonight (really). Iced animal crackers here with an apple juice chaser….I wish you didn’t live 3000 miles away. We could’ve done dinner & a movie together while the men watched manly tv stuff at home.

I remember all too well taking H to see “Iron Giant” when she was about Duke’s age. It was cute, though a little disturbing, and I didn’t think she was really following, until the giant was on his rampage. H then started shrieking “He’s going to kill them all, they’re all going to die” over and over. It was not pretty.
I’m with Prince on this one – theaters usually drive me nuts, what with my seat being kicked and the sticky floor and the worry that someone’s going to steal my purse and I won’t be able to buy a $5 diet coke. And of course that same drink will cause me to miss the most exciting part of the movie because I have to pee after sipping on it for 2 hours straight. The other thing that drives me nuts about movies is that I’m married to Mr. Early. We arrive too early to even be seated, then we’re seated and wait for 20 minutes, then we sit through 15 minutes of commercials and 15 minutes of previews. I just cannot sit still that long. And no, the caffeine has nothing to do with that!

You went grocery shopping while PMSing and cookies is ALL you came home with? You need help woman. You forgot the chocolate, pretzels, popcorn, ice cream, caramel sauce, hot fudge, cashews, and milk. Since milk is protein, you can have milk with any of the aforementioned items and have a complete and balanced meal, PMS-style.
I like going to the movies, just not when everyone else decides to go to the movies.

Beth’s got it right… but you also forgot the ripple potato chips, roasted garlic dip and the French Silk pie.
Movies? Um… hate to say it, but I’m with Prince on this one.
