I hope you’ve enjoyed the time off…

…because now is the time to start discussing

MY BIRTHDAY!!!

Yes, my dear internets, time has come for my birthday discussions. I want to say that I’m maturing, since I’ve made it to the 5th of September before I’ve started mentioning it. But what I’m going to do for my birthday remains a mystery. Yes, I have no idea. I normally plan and plan, but the reality is I have no idea what I WANT this year.

Prince asked me this weekend what gift I wanted and I have nothing on my short list. Oh, sure I want an iPhone, or the new iPod that he’s about to buy (for himself). I already have Prince’s Christmas gift (tucked away out of your sight, Prince — “Back Off.”) but I can not think about what I want in 11 days.

Here’s the thing:

  1. No, I don’t need Prince or Duke to pick out yarn. First, Duke is in his orange phase. Second, Prince thinks I have enough yarn and probably won’t enjoy giving it to me.
  2. I think I want a gadget. But what? Who knows.

What I do know is that I’ve confirmed the sitter so we could do something once Prince figures it all out. Maybe I won’t be disappointed this year — but who knows. I’m giving him all the pressure this year. So, there’s your challenge, Prince — make it happen….um, yup, there’s some pressure too. (And while you are thinking about it, just remember that I’m already done with your Christmas — or birthday, whichever. ;))

  1. Umm, well, if you can’t think of what you want the Prince or Duke to give you for your birthday, what about what should your followers get you??? :D I have some ideas… :)

  2. Psst. Prince. Here’s something she very probably doesn’t have that you know she would fall down at your feet over: yeah, it’s yarn, but, no: it’s–Yarn! Blue Sky Alpacas Royal Baby Alpaca–a finer micron count even than the Misti brand Royal. Finer than many cashmeres. Pricey, but then again, twice the yardage of smaller skeins. Or, Sea Silk. Or, newer and more esoteric yet, Sea Wool from Handmaiden and Fleece Artist (not other brands that try to call their yarns sea wool): merino and kelp spun up together. Yup. Seaweed. I got a sample, and it is seriously Nice Stuff, I mean, seriously. 11 days? You got time to order some, dude, I mean, Prince. Just a buzz in your ear from another weirdo crazy knitter. Listen to me, honey, I know what the woman wants!

  3. I vote for a cool, kick ass camera to call your very own. Oh yea, plus a steak and lobster dinner, but that part should go without saying ;)

  4. What about that MamaBear swift you’ve been wanting for oh-so-long? And really - does he need yet another iPod?

One thing you could do - go to http://www.thesweetsheep.com and make a wish list - then you can have the wish list emailed to him - then there are no decisions to make except how much fabulous yarn he wants to buy you!

    There’s always a new cupcake taker! ;P

Some of us are already done with b-day shopping, and in fact might have taken a package to the PO yesterday. Just sayin’ - be on the lookout. And I know you’ll open it early - I figured I’d try to have it there for the beginning of the official b-day week!

  5. Ok, first to clarify -NO YARN!!!!

Second, I’m getting a new iPod because my iPod has been acting up for several months. Despite this I DIDN’T get a new iPod in July like somebody else in this house… My iPod is actually suffering a long drawn out death and I’d like to put it out of my misery.

    Third - NO YARN!!!!

Fourth - I have no problem with a new camera, and we’ve talked about this a lot. She wants an SLR after taking mine to AK. I would go with a Canon because I already own bits for my camera and we wouldn’t need to get duplicates of much of it. Downside- price. Even an entry level SLR is expensive. Also, since we have the boy only 1 of us is ever able to take pictures at once so I’m not sure we truly need two expensive cameras.

    Fifth - NO YARN!!!!!!

Sixth - We’re headed on a BIG trip next month (QM2 Eastbound Trans-Atlantic, and 4 nights in Paris) and it wouldn’t be the first time that either of us voluntarily skipped a birthday present in order to go on the hunt for a cool something while traveling a few weeks later…

Seventh - NO YARN!!! Sorry but knitter or not, little says “I love you” LESS to me than yarn… I’m sorry if I hurt anybody’s feelings by saying that - but I’d rather just suck it up and give a bouquet of flowers for her birthday than any yarn - and I don’t do flowers for special events either - those are for unexpected surprises…

  6. Oh my, King, you are just a little defensive I think about this whole YARN thing. I think there’s a psychological issue that might need to be explored here, but I will not explore these issues publicly, but leave them to you.
And as to whether two cameras are needed, I humbly submit that if there is only one electronic toy of a said kind, then that toy is usually used more by one party than the other. If you need two iPods, you need two cameras. And the Queeen certainly deserves nothing but the best!

  7. My bday is on the 11th and I also know not what it will bring. The iPhone just went down $200, FYI.

  8. OK, Prince, there are ways to do both:
    http://yarngiftbouquets.com/
And I retract the statement about another iPod - I thought that you both got new ones a few months ago. I most humbly apologize. And while Paris is a good excuse, I know what that cruise cost you, so I’m guessing you need to find some good stuff while you’re there. Maybe even a yarn store!

And if either of you are in a mood to be helpful, I need gift ideas for a 17 YO girl, a 3 YO boy, and a 50-something YO hip grandma, all that won’t break the bank!

  9. Wait, wait, Renee, he’s not being defensive, he’s just trying to throw her off. He’s really getting her some Sea Silk and Sea Wool–you know, meshes well with that whole cruise ship theme–and he’s trying to make sure she doesn’t guess. A bit of Blue Sky Baby Alpaca Royale, because, you know, she’s Royale-ty…

We’ll pretend we don’t know. Shhh!

  10. Alison,
Gosh (slapping forehead with amazement) — of course you are right…unless he really decides to get her the camera instead!

  11. When fiber fails - go with expensive food items or gadgets.

  12. Wrapped up in the very best yarn. Who wants plain old wrapping paper messing around their new camera.
