Is PMS, Jetlag, or PTVS*?

October 24th, 2007

I can’t tell anymore.  I’m out of sorts lately.  I am rather sure it has nothing to do with the fact I’ve been working 15 hour days since my return and I still feel (and am) horribly behind. So I thought I’d go through the Good/Bad list, my effort to share the love and joy.

Good:  For reasons I’ve not figured out, we may have happened on a cat food that is injestible by the beasts.  We bought new food because the store was out of the old (so, Prince bought the smallest container since we know the eldest has that trick stomach — you know the one that allows him to eat and then puke for the first week of any new food) and there hasn’t been so much as a cough from any feline in the house since.

Bad: Prince bought the smallest possible container.  Today is day three and we NEED more.  Yes, I can go to the store and buy more; but I fear that the minute I invest the $32+ in the BIG bag, I’ll have a return to the pukefest.  Does anyone other than me think the cats may have a problem with bulk foods?

Good: My doctor gave Duke a referral to another doctor.  Yeah!  Just what we needed.

Bad: As I was shutting off my phone to go to Paris (how I love to say that), I got a message from the office that said the insurance company couldn’t process the referral because there was “no provider in my area on the plan.”  I was asked to call the insurance folks to sort out the problem.  So, I finally get back, dig through the to do list to get to “Fix the Boy’s Doctor Issue” and I call.  I lovely woman on the phone with me informs me that the doctor need only to fax in the form requesting the referral and put in there “No doctor in network” and they will find one out of network and pay for it for me.  Great, then I ask — hey, since we are going out of network anyway, can we get the doctor that is recommended since the two have a working relationship already (and the unspoken — are in my town and I don’t have to drive hours to go back and forth?).  “Well, yes — they need only put the requested doctor’s name, address, and tax ID number on the form and it will happen.”  So, I ask — um, what was on the form they faxed in to begin with? “Requested doctor’s name, address, and tax ID#.” I just don’t get it — and the woman (nice as she could be) didn’t understand why I was laughing uncontrollably.

Good: Duke loves his cat.  He says his cat is his best friend.  It is cute beyond belief.

Bad: Duke tells me that his cat is thirsty and gets a NEW bowl down, fills it with water and orders the cat to drink.  First, can we not put bowls of water all over the kitchen floor — since my uncoordinated self is not capable of opening the fridge without spilling them?  Second, when you figure out how to lead a cat to water and make him drink, please share — because this situation has reached “FRUSTRATING” for all involved.

Good:  We are all finally sleeping to at least 6am.

Bad: We are are still trying to go to bed about 8pm.  This would be fine, except that I’m still at my desk working at 10pm.

Good: I finally got all 214 photos put into my Flickr Uploader, titled, tagged, and captioned (this took me about 2 days in my spare time) –

Bad: I pushed the ‘upload’ button and at that moment the connection to the internet blipped and all was lost.  I’m not over it yet — so all photos from the trip are delayed, until I smell enough wool to stop cussing at the computer.

Speaking of wool — I’ve not knit a single stitch since I’ve been home — I am beginning to think that might be part of my problem.

*PTVS = Post Traumatic Vacation Syndrome — the horrible syndrome where you are happy to be home, but horrified that you have four times the amount of stuff to do than you normally do because you were away and nothing happened while you were gone?
