Random Wednesday
February 27th, 2008How it became Wednesday this week, I have NO idea. Seriously, last I checked it was Monday morning and I’m not entirely sure how it became Wednesday without me looking. But alas, it is and that means Knit Night tomorrow night and ever so much closer to the weekend, when I get to eat pancakes, go to a major case-lot sale (is what it sounds like, a sale on case lots of stuff, useful stuff like toilet paper and ziploc bags), and a birthday with Duke. What happened to weekends of bon-bons and movies?
Anyway, here’s the random things I want to tell you, but have not bothered to build real posts around any of them.
- Recently I paid more for plane tickets than I ever had before, which while totally excited about it, I’m firmly in need of therapy to stop checking for the prices to drop at every turn.
- I took Duke to the dentist yesterday morning. He charmed the office with talents that truly amaze me. He opened wide when asked and tried hard to hide his disgust that the lady kept asking him to open wide like an alligator. I could see that he was thinking, “Look, Lady, I’m 4, that’s almost grown up. This isn’t my first time at the dentist and I’m quite good at just opening my mouth, you can stop the dang baby talk.” But with the grace that my child posesses that I do not, he just looked up at her and asked for grape flavored polish.
- It has been raining in Snarkville lately. Rain means puddles and mud. Both of these attract small boy creatures like magnets. So, in these parts, children (and many adults) wear Wellies most of the winter. Duke is no exception (he has a lovely pair of frog boots). However, my child has decided that his boots have a theme song….”These boots are made for walking…” which he sings OFTEN — yes, even the part where ‘these boots will walk all over you.’ Yup, I laugh every single time.
- I still have 3 coffee pots on my counter. No, I haven’t made choices yet.
- Recently, I’ve been obsessed with watching “How Clean is Your House” on BBCA. If you don’t know the show, two housekeeping gurus go to people’s homes (their horribly messy, gross, piles of laundry in the floor homes) and shame them into cleaning. It is awful and wonderful at the same time. I keep wondering if all the watching is improving my desire to clean house. hmmm….
- My knitting? Well, I’ve become totally obsessed with a sweater. I cast it on and showed up to Jasmin’s home Friday evening with about an inch done. I’m about to finish the neck decreases and cast off the body. The pattern is dead simple and I’m using my hand-dyed yarn. I’m a lot in love with it and hope to have the whole sweater finished next week. My only concern is that it is a ribbed/cabled number and it has a ton of stretch — but looking at it unstretched, it appears to look like it would only fit a small child. The worry and denial begins.

If it’s too small, there are always willing helpers… (running and ducking)
