Time is on My Side
I have never in my life believed I get a lot done in a day. No, seriously. Since most days I don’t shower and get dressed until lunchtime, I’m probably behind on most housework, and really I am not sure I’m all that productive, I’m fairly sure that a semi-trained monkey could accomplish more in any given day than me…
Last night at Knit Night, I was showing off my sweater that I’m working on. I may have mentioned that I’ve been working on it a little over a week at which point there was an outcry of “how do you have that kind of time to knit?” I kept saying, I have no time — really, I don’t have full days to sit and knit in my chair and watch “my stories” (Seriously, I don’t watch ’stories’ unless you consider my addiction to CSI or How Clean is Your House?) But I do seem to get knitting done.
At first I defended myself by outlining my typical day, which granted starts early and I do have a cup of coffee, read blogs, possibly write my own and knit a little in the am quiet time. But since now where until Duke is tucked into his bed do I sit down for more than 30 to 45 minutes to knit, I never thought I spent any time at it. Who knew that 30 minutes here and 45 minutes there equal TIME? Please don’t tell me this works for other things, like cleaning the house, grocery shopping or the laundry.
The other thing that I’ve realized that is helping is my firm commitment to single project knitting (Knitting slang requires that I refer to it as ‘monogamy’) but it really helps. I’ve broken my plan once since I begun this new focus and frankly I think I had the wrong yarn for the project and I’m still dealing with that. But I like finishing projects and moving forward and that keeps me going.
But I still don’t think I have time. People I don’t. Stop looking at me like that.

You have just as much time as everyone else – a total of 1,440 minutes per day. It’s all in how you choose to use them, and in what combinations.
Don’t worry, I won’t tell you that it works just as well for other things (even though … well … nevermind).
