Las Vegas Misses Me

April 1st, 2008

Ok, so after the snack issues I had the night before leaving for Las Vegas, I promptly was sucked into the vortex of the underbelly of the gambling lifestyle for a few days.  When I finally came up for air, it was time to pack up and go home.  Thus, you get the highlights of the trip to Las Vegas.

  1. I ate my body weight at Sonic.  While a friend of ours will tell you not to eat their food, that you go there for drinks and snacks, I can tell you I loved every mouthfull.  I also drank much Strawberry Limeade.
  2. We stayed off strip - and by off strip I mean in another town.  While this meant a short drive to Vegas every morning, it meant that we could bring the dog (saving tons on kennel fees).  However, the hotel we were ate claims to love kids and dogs alike offering both “amenity packs” — Duke’s ‘pack’ was a magna-doodle.  The Dog’s was two bowls, a placemat, a toy, three treats, and a welcome letter.  Who do you think they like more?
  3. Another side ‘benefit’ of staying off strip is that Duke didn’t think he went to Las Vegas.  We packed up to head home and he declared, “But Mommy, we still have to GO to Las Begas.”  Um, buddy, we’ve been there many, many times.
  4. There was a waterslide at our hotel, ’nuff said.
  5. Net gambling losses:  Put a grand total of $30 into penny slot machines.  Walked out of the Casino with $20.  Net ‘donation’ was $10, and for our $10 we got 3 days of penny slot fun.  Frankly, I’m thrilled.
  6. On the drives down and back, Duke wanted to spend his awake morning time in my car chatting.  We’d stop for lunch and declare he wanted to ride with Daddy.  Ok, this isn’t a problem — except then he’d promptly fall asleep.
  7. The new car is good for long car trips, though it is a little lacking in the lumber support.  However, on the way home there were high winds and that dropped our average fuel economy from 32 MPG to a mere 29 MPG.  Not too shabby for an SUV.
  8. When packing up the car and almost everything fit perfectly in the back of the Escape, Prince declared, “We fit pretty well in this car.”  Yes, we do.  I think downsizing has been good to us.
  9. We packed three people for a long weekend in a single suitcase.  Oh, Queen Mum, we can in fat do it.  I will say that even with that, we (and in this I totally mean Prince) over packed by one t-shirt and one sweatshirt.  Duke and I used exactly the clothes we brought.
  10. When I was growing up, I got a rollaway bed when we stopped for the night.  You know the kind that folds in the middle and is roughly as comfortable folded as it is laid flat?  Well, you know what Duke gets when he gets a rollaway bed?  A single bed, not folded, stored on its short end (so the headboard is on wheels).  His bed was actually comfortable.  Yet another reason his life is easier.

Net Vegas was a good trip for us.  We are glad to be home.  We got back to a mountain of mail and work — but a mere 6 weeks until Sea Socks and that’s to be expected.

  1. How can anyone not love Sonic? Chili-cheese tots, chili cheese dogs, and a giant cherry Diet Coke to go with it? And their chocolate cream pie shakes - mmm, must go find me a Sonic.

It sounds like you guys had a great trip - you know Mark was dying to be there as well, so I hope you had some fun for him too.

And they obviously liked the dog more!

  2. Sounds like a good non-total Vegas trip.

Was this for the Mini get together again??
