About Me
I truly love to read other people’s about me pages. There are some really good and funny ones out there and I fear I may pale in comparison. But I’m up for a wee challenge. But since today, thoughts are not in complete sentences I thought I’d go for the 100 things about me post and then we will see if we can refine it from there.
- I am the mother of a nearly 3 year old boy (Duke).
- I have a husband of nearly 7 years. (Prince)
- We have two anniversaries. One the day of our wedding and one which was the day we got married in the courthouse. I think it was kinda cool; but in a way I think it means neither date really gets celebrated much. I’m ok with that.
- My first job after retail after college was to work for a book company.
- In my life, I’ve worked for 2 clothing companies, 1 craft store, 1 book wholeseller, 1 jewelry company, 2 internet companies, 1 media outlet, and this travel thing. Yes, I’m tired.
- I’m a morning person, in that I am physically not capable of sleeping past 7am most days. However an afternoon nap is right up my alley.
- I have lived in 5 states.
- I don’t like to cook. I love to entertain and will delight in cooking for that; but I hate to do the nightly dinner thing.
- There is no woman in my family within 2 generations who could cook. I have no role model.
- I have 3 cats and a dog.
- I am both a Mac and PC person — though I think I prefer my personal life on the Mac.
- I have a serious love affair with teen romantic comedy movies. One of my favorites (once we get past the true greats of 16 Candles and The Breakfast Club) is Things I Hate About You.
- Once I find a movie I like, I can watch it over and over again. This trait seems to annoy Prince greatly and he will make fun of it constantly.
- I am a what I’d consider a picky eater. I don’t eat nuts, tomatoes, or mayo.
- Speaking of foods, I’m a Southern girl who believes veggies should be COOKED to eat them, preferably in bacon fat.
- It took 4 tries for me to pass the DMV written Motorcycle exam.
- I learned to knit in May 2006. My now closest friend (then wife of someone I sort of knew) taught me. I’m addicted now.
- I collect miniature teddy bears from a British artist called Deb Canham. She is amazing, but my collection has slowed in favor of yarn.
- Growing up my father called me “Shorty” which happened to be what my grandfather called my mother too. When my cousin was born (15 years younger than me), I refused to pass along the “Shorty” nickname. Yes, I was a brat. Prince calls Duke “Shorty” and I don’t mind anymore.
- I call Duke “Buddy”
- I love to read, but never find the time. So, recently I discovered books on tape, I listen in the car, while I knit, and when I travel. It has changed my reading life.
- I tend “read” mostly chick lit. I think it is part of my need for escapism — which is what I tend to go for in movies.
- When I was growing up, I watched the movie “Yankee Doodle Dandy” with James Cagney in it so many times I wore out the video tape.
- I still think I can sing most of the songs in that one.
- I love Broadway Musicals. Yes, I even liked Cats — but not as much as some others.
- I have the soundtracks to most of my favorite musicals.
- I listen to them often enough to be able to sing most of the scores.
- Prince prefers I not sing if he’s in the same county.
- I don’t care much.
- If there are beach people and mountain people, I’m a mountain person.
- I knit passionately.
- I travel for a living — sort of.
- It only SOUNDS exciting, trust me — while it beats sitting in an office anyday, it really is work.
- My family has 7 computers in our house.
- Prince and I don’t share well, thus we buy most things we want in twos.
- Including our iPods — TWICE.
- We have an uncanny ability to buy iPods a WEEK before a major iPod release, like the Photo AND the video. Alas, always a day late.
- I have a love affair with talk radio. I don’t think I’ve listened to music on the radio in years.
- When I was growing up I wanted to be an Architect.
- By 5th grade, I had a love affair with Thomas Jefferson — Shh, if you don’t tell anyone, it was because of his house. I’ve always been a sucker for a great house.
- I own more vehicles than there are people who drive in my house.
- I don’t bowl, but I’m joining a bowling league.
- My favorite food is really Eggs Bendict. I’ve loved them for a long, long time. And I’m pretty sure I’d be able to eat them for 3 meals a day for at least a week before wanting something else.
- Speaking of food, I do not like dark meat on chickens and turkeys. It took me years to understand why I never liked fried chicken — I always got the drumstick. I’m just not a fan.
- I’m new to bowling on a league with my husband. Should either be great fun or great blog fodder — hopefully both.
- I’m a complete coffee addict. I don’t begin a day with coffee and most people are rather thankful for that. (Duke is trying his best to join me in my addiction.)
- It is taking me longer than I expected to come up with 50 things.
- I dislike going to the grocery store.
- I refuse to make a list and thus always forget important things (like the major ingredient in any recipe I wanted to make that week).
- I am the least organized person I know. This is not a trait I’m proud of, but I keep working on it.
- When I was dating Prince, I was addicted to Diet Coke. He will not drink anything diet. So I switched to real Coke. Now, I drink Coke Zero.
- I watch way too much TV and I’m drawn to crime dramas.
- I’ve been know to IM my husband when he’s sitting next to me. He’s been known to do it too.
- I have a strange addiction to bed linens and I have lots of sets for all the beds in the house.
