Birthday Wishes: 33rd Birthday Edition

As this list grew over five items long, I realized how icky it will be by 30 at the bottom of my daily post. So, I decided to move it here and keep the list running until I get to the full 30. I also think this will be a better way for me to keep track of my accommplishments as we go through the year. (Let’s ignore the fact that this is going to have to become a cyber-sticker chart). However, folks you now have a job to do — you MUST help me focus and accomplish my goals, k? Cheer me on when I am down (which so many of you do anyway) and pat me on the back when I add a “sticker” to my list. Deal? Glad we can come to an understanding.

UPDATING: I’ll be updating on occasions, to make the review process easier. All updates will be in italics. When something is truly complete, I’ll cross it off.
30 ROYAL WISHES:

  1. I wish while I’m 33 to ride in a hot air balloon. I’ve sort of changed this one — not only did I repell (in the good way); I’m planning on parasailing. If I don’t make the balloon ride, this will do for now.
  2. I wish while I’m 33 to travel somewhere I’ve never been. Done. Done. Done. I’ve now been to LA and Mexico. I’ve got new places I’m going to while I’m 33, but I can cross this one off the list.
  3. I wish while I’m 33 to knit 12 pairs of socks (that’s one pair per month). Um.  Well, I have one sock done, one sock to the heel, one sock in the foot — and no none of them are from the same pair, why?
  4. I wish while I’m 33 to clean out my closet of all clothes, shoes, and accessories that I don’t love, fit well, and look fabulous. Mostly done. I’ve cleaned out all my hanging clothes in the closet. I’m slowly working my way through the accessories, though.
  5. I wish while I’m 33 to learn to cook a new meal every month that becomes part of our normal dinner rotations. Um, not there yet — but I did make one heck of a Thanksgiving dinner.
  6. I wish while I’m 33 to read 12 new books (I’m an incredibly slow reader — mostly because my reading time is limited to my potty time and I have not yet perfected reading and knitting) not including the MANY books I read to Duke. One down: Goodnight Nobody.
  7. I wish while I’m 33 to improve my bowling average to be ABOVE my handicap. (Note the bowling theme based on the bowling night — I’m cleaver that way.) Completed, but I still want a bigger difference in my handicap and my average, ok?
  8. I wish while I’m 33 to wear more than one pair of earrings the whole year. (This is an attempt to change it up a bit and get out of a jewelry rut. I will not commit to wearing a different pair daily, but I will work to get to the point of changing it up a bit and not sticking to the ‘neutrals’ and basics.) I have to say I’m doing fairly well here. The Queen Mum’s gift of earrings helped a lot and while I’ve not 100% with earrings everyday, I’m doing them more and changing them near daily.
  9. I wish while I’m 33 to have at least one dinner evening worthy of bringing out the “good dishes.” – perhaps even with good friends over. Thanksgiving on the good dishes!!
  10. I wish while I’m 33 to learn to make steeks. Talk about overcoming fear — to cut hand knit!?!?! I’d have to start a sweater!
  11. I wish while I’m 33 to go camping with my family. To make good on the promise we made 5 years ago and go do it.
  12. I wish while I’m 33 to climb to the top of the hill in my backyard.
  13. I wish while I’m 33 to eat at the various places recommended to me by my (normal) mother’s club when I asked for dinning advice for my birthday. There are 14 I haven’t been to yet on my list. Two down.
  14. I wish while I’m 33 to I will find a bra that fits and looks good. I will also buy MANY of them as I’m sure they will be discountined the second it looks good on me. I have found one and bought the store out. :)
  15. I wish while I’m 33 to be ok with stopping dyeing my hair and embrace my gray again. Spoke to my stylist today and he suggests against it, but thinks it’s not the worst time to give it a shot, I only have about 4 more inches to grow out to be all natural again. I’m still debating. Update #2: I dyed my hair on Monday. Prince has yet to notice. I decided to go with one that should wash out in 6 weeks, to allow me to grow the grey out without the harsh, harsh line. Update #3: Been longer than 6 weeks and have NOT dyed again.  The grey is coming back and peeking through more and more — undecided what to do next.
  16. I wish while I’m 33 to make my goal weight.
  17. I wish while I’m 33 to reclaim my backyard as a place of play and enjoyment.
  18. I wish while I’m 33 to buy a new grill and begin to cook outside again. (this will wait until after the rainy season).
  19. I wish while I’m 33 to master family dinner time. Master is a hard word.
  20. I wish while I’m 33 to figure out the furniture placement in this house.
  21. I wish while I’m 33 to wear make-up at least once for something other than a “special occasion.” I think this means I’ll have to go BUY make-up too. I did the first step, I BOUGHT make-up. Update #2: I’ve begun to wear it at least once a week!
  22. I wish while I’m 33 to finish all my knitting projects that are CURRENTLY on the needles. There WERE 5. Now there are 4, I finished the Icarus shawl. Left to go: Boise shawl, a curly mohair shawl, ArtFibers sweater, and Rowan sweater.
  23. I wish while I’m 33 to have an organized garage.
  24. I wish while I’m 33 to turn off the e-mails from the “crazies.” Yes, I finally did it. I left the mother’s group too, because frankly it was just ticking me.
  25. I wish while I’m 33 to finally get off my butt and find a church to go to again.
  26. I wish while I’m 33 to learn something new. Thus far, I’ve learned the lesson about baking Tupperware; how to cut Duke’s hair. Update #2: I’m not stopping, but I’m learning all the time — so let’s cross this off, ok?
  27. I wish while I’m 33 to do something I’ve never done before. I cut Duke’s hair TWICE.
  28. I wish while I’m 33 to find myself while doing everything above.
  29. I wish while I’m 33 to live this year with abandon — with all that implies.
  30. I wish when I’m 34 to look back on 33 and say, “That was a very good year.” And then do it again when I’m 34.

That’s it folks. The list is finally complete. I have 30 wishes, 30 goals, 30 things I want out of my 33rd year.
